How to make friends at new school?!?

Okay so I just started at a new school 3 weeks ago and I'm having a difficult time. I didn't know anyone at this school and I feel so awkward when it comes to lunchtime and before school and stuff. I'm making so much effort to make friends but people ignore me half the time? I still dnt know which group I belong too, and I do have one somewhat close friend who is in with the populars. But they kind of ignore me and they make me feel shy and awkward like idk what to say?! So yeah I'm having that trouble. Btw people say I am pretty and I do tend to be outgoing, helppppp?!
