Why does my cat always put his catches in his food bowl?

Why oh why does he do this? Minimum twice a week. He's a real big killer when it comes to gophers, mice, birds, and sometimes a rabbit or two. I understand it's what cats do, but why does he feel the need to leave it in his food dish? It's such a hle taking it out, especially if the flies already laid their eggs and maggots pop out of the carc. I'm asking this because my cat just left another present in his bowl.
