If our brains are bio-electric computers and not spiritual telephones, is free will possible?

Yes and no. Evolution gave our brains the ability to think independently, and not in a pre-programed way (in a sense). But it doesn't mean we can use our brains to defy the laws of physics. Also, we have strong instincts to do certain things based on evolution, but it isn't set in stone.
